This article is about Instagram strategies for wedding professionals that are looking for ways to stand out on the platform.
If you’re a wedding professional looking to attract more clients and build your brand on social media, Instagram is the platform you should focus on.
With its large user base of millennials and its visual nature, Instagram is the perfect place to showcase your work and connect with potential customers.
However, with so many users and content creators on the platform, it can be difficult to stand out and make an impact. In this blog post, I’m sharing some strategies and tips that Elise James from The Wedding Marketer shared with us during the virtual Wedding Business Expo that I hosted for wedding pros.
These Instagram strategies for wedding professionals will help you get your wedding products or services noticed on Instagram and grow your business.
1. Create Engaging Wedding-Focused Content on Instagram
One of the keys to success on Instagram is creating engaging and high-quality wedding-focused content that resonates with your target brides and bridal couples.
There are several types of content you can post on the platform, including reels, posts, carousels, and stories.
Each format has its own strengths and can be used to target your ideal clients and achieve different goals.
In this blog post about Instagram strategies for wedding professionals, I’m sharing the different types of content that Elise recommends you share on Instagram and outline how you can make the most of each format to attract more followers, increase engagement, and get more wedding bookings or sales.
2. Craft Effective Captions and Hashtags on Instagram
Hashtags used to be crucial elements for any Instagram post, however, there is a lot of talk about their effectiveness in today’s social media landscape.
For those of you that still choose to use Hashtags, they can provide context, personality, and discoverability to your content, and can help you reach new audiences and connect with existing ones.
However, writing effective captions and choosing the right hashtags can be a challenge, especially if you’re new to the platform or don’t have much experience with social media marketing.

3. Plan and Schedule Your Instagram Content
Posting regularly and on a predictable schedule can help you stay on top of a bride’s or bridal couple’s mind and increase your chances of getting discovered by new followers.
However, coming up with fresh ideas and creating new content can be time-consuming and stressful, especially if you’re also busy running all the other areas of your wedding business.
Tools and Apps for Instagram Marketing: Favorite Tools for Wedding Professionals
If you want to take your Instagram marketing to the next level, you’ll need some tools and apps to help you streamline your workflow, optimize your content, and track your results.
There are many tools available for Instagram marketing, from scheduling apps to analytics tools to design resources.
Here’s a list of my favorite tools and apps for wedding professionals on Instagram – I recommend you use one of these tools to save time, improve your content, and grow your wedding business…
How Couples Use Instagram for Wedding Planning
Instagram has become a popular platform for bridal couples to use when planning their weddings.
On average, people spend 30 minutes a day on Instagram, with some exceeding that amount.
A study found that the average person scrolls through the length of two marathons on social media in a year, indicating that audiences are actively using social media, especially Instagram.
Couples use Instagram for various reasons, including entertainment, inspiration, communication, and social proof.
However, most couples are not on Instagram to be sold to. Elise shared a study in her live training that was conducted in Australia, it found that 20% of couples find their vendors on social media!
Social media is crucial for wedding vendors because if couples discover a vendor’s website first, they will likely go to social media to check if the business exists.
Regularly posting on Instagram is essential for couples to see that a wedding vendor is still in business and has made it through tough times, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Consistently posting once a week is better than posting every two days for a month and then going silent for a month.
Active and Passive Audiences
Instagram has two types of audiences: active and passive couples. Active couples are those who are actively looking for a vendor and are in the decision-making process.
Passive couples are those who are not yet ready to be sold to, and vendors can gradually build them up to the stage where they are ready to make a decision.

How to Add Value to Your Instagram Content
To add value to your Instagram content, you need to ensure you are educating your followers on topics related to the wedding industry, sharing entertaining content with relatable memes, and providing helpful tips and information to make their wedding planning days easier.
Why Engagement on Instagram is Down and What to do About it!
Couples are still using Instagram but not engaging as much as they used to, this all started during the introduction of Reels in 2019 which has totally affected engagement on Instagram.
Wedding businesses need to become more like content creators if they want to continue to grow their wedding business on Instagram.
That is why it is essential to implement Reels into your Instagram strategy if you want to continue to increase engagement and regain traction for your wedding company.
The Importance of Content Pillars for Your Instagram Strategy
Content pillars can help you create a consistent and effective Instagram strategy. They are important for your brand’s messaging and identity and can add massive value to your Instagram content and help you engage more with your followers.
These pillars, such as product/service, behind-the-scenes, educational/informational, inspirational/motivational, and lifestyle/entertainment, help build a consistent and cohesive brand identity.
By focusing on these themes, your wedding brand can create more engaging content that perfectly aligns and resonates with your target brides and bridal couples.
Maximizing Your Wedding Business on Instagram
Consistency, planning, and engagement are crucial when it comes to using Instagram for your wedding business.
To maximize the results you get from your Instagram strategy, Elise suggests you post regularly, use scheduling tools, and engage with your audience to improve your engagement rate, reach, and audience growth.
Setting Measurable Goals for Your Wedding Business on Instagram
The SMART goal-setting framework is the perfect concept to use with your wedding business on Instagram.
It is crucial to set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based goals that align with our wedding industry benchmarks and your business objectives.

Don’t Post and Ghost: How to Engage with Your Audience on Instagram
A very common mistake that a lot of wedding pros make when posting content on Instagram is to post and then ignore your audience.
Instagram offers some incredible features that can really help you to engage with brides and bridal couples, these include DMs, comments, and stories.
Tips for Promoting Your Wedding Business on Instagram:
- Purge your accounts: If you have a lot of irrelevant accounts that you follow on Instagram, unfollow them. This will help you hone in on the right target demographic.
- Post at the right time every day: Check when your audience is online by going into your analytics. Post during the times when your audience is most engaged.
- Have a call to action on each post: Ask questions, send a link to your bio, tag products, etc
- Mix up your content: Don’t make every post a sales post. Mix up your content with promotional, inspirational, educational, entertaining, and behind-the-scenes posts.
- Be yourself: Engage with your audience and let your tone of voice come into your captions. Show a little bit of your personality within reason and relevancy.
- Share behind-the-scenes content: People love behind-the-scenes content, especially when it comes to weddings, so share those images or that video footage whenever you can.
- Ask permission to share other content: If you want to share someone else’s content, ask for their permission first, even if it’s already on Instagram. It’s still their content, and it’s important to respect their ownership. Also, remember to give credit, especially to wedding photographers!
Top Tips to Improve Your Instagram Marketing Strategy
- Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms today, especially for wedding-focused content. Therefore, making it a valuable tool for businesses to connect with their audience. However, simply posting content isn’t enough to get noticed on Instagram. To improve your marketing strategy, consider creating a consistent brand aesthetic, utilizing Instagram Stories, and collaborating with other vendors.
- One of the keys to success on Instagram is engagement. To maximize your engagement, it’s important to post at the right time for your audience, use calls to action, and mix up your content with promotional, inspirational, educational, and entertaining posts. Additionally, it’s important to be yourself and share behind-the-scenes content, while also asking permission to share other users’ content. Finally, remember to periodically purge your follower list of irrelevant accounts.
How to Optimize Your Instagram Captions for Maximum Engagement
When it comes to Instagram captions, the length and content can make a big difference in engagement. For Reels, it’s important to keep captions shorter and focus on the video content.
For regular Instagram posts, experiment with caption length depending on the type of content.
Promotional posts can be shorter, while educational or behind-the-scenes posts may warrant longer captions.
Hashtag Strategy for Instagram Success
As Elise shares in her Instagram for Wedding Pros video training, using hashtags effectively on Instagram can greatly increase your reach and engagement. She suggests using a mix of popular and niche hashtags, with a focus on those with 50k-250k uses.
Elise also suggests that you avoid repeating the same hashtags and try to use different ones for each post. Include up to 30 hashtags in the captions, not the comments.
NOTE – I have added the above content from her training video, although I personally do not agree with this hashtag strategy. I also work with 5 hashtags max. But I do not want to confuse you here. The best way is to experiment and see what works for you and your business. The stats will give you all the data you need to make a wise decision.

Hashtag Slayer is an awesome tool that you can also use to research hashtags for your specific wedding business.
How to Create Winning Instagram Reels
Use trending or popular audio to increase shelf life, and focus on behind-the-scenes, relatable, or educational content.
Don’t be afraid to get creative with Reels, even if you don’t want to dance or appear on camera.
Boosting SEO on Instagram
Using SEO tactics on Instagram can improve your visibility and reach. Use alt text for images and tag the location in each post.
Use relevant keywords, but don’t sound like a robot. If you include closed-ended call-to-actions in your captions, this can increase engagement, as it makes it easier for your audience to respond.
Creating a Content Strategy for Your Wedding Business
For wedding businesses, creating a content strategy can be challenging as there are many different services to showcase.
One helpful tip is to consider your services and the challenges that couples face when planning their wedding.
From there, you can create content pillars such as promotional, educational, relatable, entertaining, inspirational, and behind-the-scenes.
For example, if you offer vow writing services and couples struggle with writing their own vows, you can create educational content with tips for writing vows or promotional content highlighting your vow writing service.
It’s important to mix up your content and not always focus on promotional material. By creating a content strategy that addresses the needs of your audience, you can build a stronger connection with them and increase engagement.
Aside from regular posting, utilizing Instagram’s features such as stories and live videos can also increase engagement. Remember to use automatic captions for videos and take advantage of the link sticker to drive traffic to your website.
In addition, creating a weekly content calendar can help you stay organized and ensure that your content aligns with your overall strategy.
By focusing on your services and the challenges that couples face, you can create content that resonates with your audience and helps build your brand.

Conclusion
In this article about Instagram strategies for wedding professionals, I have shared content taken from Elise James from The Wedding Marketer who was a guest expert during our virtual wedding expo that was held last year.
In her content, she explains in great detail how Instagram has become a popular platform for wedding businesses to connect with their audience and increase their reach, plus much more.
Watch it Now!
With the ever-changing algorithms and features, Instagram can be overwhelming to navigate.
One key feature that has gained popularity recently is Instagram reels, but which platform is better for engagement – TikTok or Instagram?
While TikTok may have a higher engagement rate overall, established brands may find more success on Instagram reels as they already have their audience there.
If you’re stuck on what to share on reels, a good tip is to spend 10 minutes once a week browsing through the reels tab for inspiration.
Aside from reels, wedding businesses can also utilize other types of content such as feed posts and Instagram stories.
While these may have a shorter shelf life, they still fit into your overall Instagram strategy and can be seen by both your existing followers and new accounts through the use of hashtags.
Until the next time
