If you’re looking for simple on-page SEO tips for wedding pros, you’re in the right place!
SEO is a huge topic and can be very confusing if you’re new to the world of websites and blogging. But in this article, I’m going to break it all down into simple, bite-size steps that you can start to implement into your wedding website’s content.
But first, let me just explain what on-page SEO is and how it can help you with your wedding business.
On-page SEO is a system or process used to help your wedding business rank on Google and other relevant search engines like Yahoo and Bing. It involved several steps that I will outline later in this article.
SEO for Your Wedding Business
Whether you like it or not, you need to optimize your wedding website for search ranking. Having a website or writing a wedding blog post that gets lost in the world wide web is pointless!
Your wedding website is more than just a brochure for your wedding business. It’s one of the most important marketing tools you will ever own and something you should take very seriously, especially if you want to attract more brides to your wedding business.
10 On-site SEO Steps to Include on Your Wedding Website and Blog
For the sake of this article, I have narrowed the steps down to the more crucial steps that will have to most impact on your wedding website pages and blog posts.
Get Your Title Right
The title you choose for your wedding blog post or website page needs to be something relevant to a bride’s search.
I’ve seen wedding pros get this wrong so many times, especially photographers! They write a lovely blog post about a recent wedding they’ve worked at recently and then title it with the bride and groom’s name.
Let me ask you this…apart from that bride and groom, who will ever do a Google search using that title?
Whereas, if the wedding photographer had titled the blog post something along the lines of An Incredible Beach Wedding in Hawaii for James and Kate.
Anyone searching ‘beach wedding in Hawaii’ will have more chance of finding your blog post than if it was named ‘James and Kate’s Wedding Day’
The title of your page is also known in the SEO language as an H1 Title. I talk more about this in the Blogging for Wedding Pros Masterclass – A short training workshop for wedding professionals who want to reap the benefits of wedding blogging.
Use Headings and Sub-Headings
Another important on-page SEO tip for wedding pros that I can share with you today is the use of headings and sub-headings on your wedding website’s pages and posts.
In SEO terms, these are called H2, H3, H4, and H5 tags. But to keep things simple, I like to refer to them as headings and sub-headings (just like you used for essays during your school days).
With on-page SEO, these headings play a crucial role in helping Google understand what your content is about and who its ideal reader will be.
For example, this article is all about on-page SEO tips for wedding pros. I am continuously mentioning the word wedding throughout the content and in some (not all) of the headings.
You don’t want to overdo the keywords! This is known as keyword packing and can negatively impact your results, so I recommend installing Yoast SEO to help you stay on track with your keyword density.
There’s a lot more I can share about headings and sub-headings (which I do share in the blogging masterclass), but as this is a post for beginners, I don’t want to overcomplicate things for you.
All you need to know is that headings and sub-headings are essential on-page SEO steps for your wedding business website and blog and should not be ignored.
Concentrate on Quality Content (That a Bride Will Want to Read)
One of the most crucial Google ranking factors that you should keep in the back of your mind when you’re writing the content for your wedding blog posts and website pages is the quality of the information and content.
In simple terms, will brides and bridal couples want to read what you’re writing about? Is the information up-to-date and relevant in today’s world of weddings?
Writing blog posts for the sake of writing blog posts can actually hurt your Google ranking if you’re not careful with the quality of your posts.
One of the main reasons to consider is the bounce rate factor.
If visitors land on your website to read your wedding articles, only to quickly leave (because of the poor content) – this will give you a high bounce rate which Google will penalize your wedding website for.
Clickbait is another point to mention here quickly. If you do not write quality information related to the title of your blog post or page, Google can also penalize your website for that too.
So, my advice is this… Always write great content that you know brides will find interesting and that will offer them a lot of value as they move forward with their wedding planning.
Internal Links and Anchor Text
I’m sure you’ve seen me write about this before, but if you’re new to my wedding business-focused website, internal links are used on your website and your blog posts to help with your Google ranking.
Internal linking is a vital on-page SEO tip for wedding pros as it’s one step that will help to keep your audience engaged with your business and the content you share.
By placing internal links on your wedding website and wedding blog posts, your readers will be encouraged to read more articles on your site and spend more time, which in turn will help with your bounce rate score.
There’s another on-page SEO tip for wedding pros that I can share under this topic of internal linking anchor text linking.
Anchor text linking is when you place an internal link on a strategically placed keyword phrase that is used within the copy of the blog post or website page. If you look closely, you will see that I’ve used anchor text linking in this article too.
External Links to High Ranking Wedding Website and Directories
The best way for me to explain external linking to high-ranking wedding websites and directories is this:
Google favors websites with credible and relevant links. This means that it is crucial for you to link to other wedding-related websites and directories that have high-ranking positions on Google if you want to rank your wedding business website.
Use Keyword Phrases
I’m sure you’ve heard it all before and yes, I’m going to say the same thing you have probably seen countless times. You need to use keywords in your wedding blog posts and website pages.
But, I want to concentrate on keyword phrases! A keyword phrase is a long-tail keyword or sentence used to describe the article or page.
For example, the keyword phrase that I am using for this wedding business article is ‘On-page SEO tips for Wedding Pros’
I have purposely used that keyword phrase so that when wedding business owners and wedding professionals search on google for on-page SEO tips, they should come across my article at some stage. (It can take a bit of time for an article to rank on Google)
But, if I do a good job with my writing, and include all the recommended on-page SEO tips that I share in this article for wedding pros – I should have a high-ranking blog post that will generate traffic to my website for years to come.
TOP TIP:
Remember to include your keyword phrase in the URL (you will find this in the meta area/SEO settings – depending on the website platform you are using). For instance, the URL for this article is my website / my keyword phrase: weddingbusinesspro.com/on-page-SEO-for-wedding-pros
Image Optimization and Alt Tag
Your website images will need to be correctly sized, compressed, and optimized if you want to improve your Google ranking and be found for specific searches.
There are various tools and plugins that you can use to optimize your images.
I share this list in the blogging for wedding pros masterclass, but you can also do a simple google search to find one that is suitable for your website platform.
Optimizing your images on your website will help with your page speed which is another Google ranking factor and one that you need to take seriously if you want to rank your wedding website higher in the google search results for your specific wedding category.
Another crucial step to include here is the Alt Tag step. With every image you add to your website or blog, you will have the chance to include a descriptive title in the alt-tag section.
I recommend using the same keyword phrase for at least 3 images on the page or blog post. I won’t go into the reason for that now, but in my 12 years as an SEO specialist, this has worked really well for me.
(If you’re really interested – there are more details on this in the masterclass)
Don’t Forget Your Meta Title and Description
Even I forget this one from time to time, especially with website pages. Your meta title and meta descriptions are the title and descriptions you find on Google searches. It’s what brides/bridal couples will see when they search for your services or products on Google
SO YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!
Your meta-title needs to be the same as your keyword phrase but it can also include extra words like ‘how to’ or ‘10 ways’ etc.
Your meta description needs to include your keyword phrase, plus more descriptive words to encourage your target audience to click on the search result and read your content.
Follow the E.A.T Strategy
E.A.T stands for Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness and is another highly important factor to include on your website and within your blog posts if you want your target audience to find you on Google and other search engines.
This is quite a complex strategy and I’m not going to go into it in great detail today, but I just want you to be aware that you need to share your expertise, your authority, and show that readers can trust your content if you want Google to rank your posts and pages.
Bonus Points – Include FAQs
A fantastic way to improve your Google ranking and get your wedding business in front of your target audience is to write answers to specific questions relating to that particular article.
For instance, if you’re writing an article about bridesmaids, you could include some frequently asked questions that bridesmaids ask.
I recommend doing a search on Google and looking at the ‘other questions asked’ section for examples to include in your frequently asked questions section on your wedding website pages and blog posts.
Conclusion
As I’m sure you can see after reading through this article about on-page SEO tips for wedding pros that there is a lot more to writing a blog post and adding content to your website than you’ve probably realized.
In my opinion, blogging is more important than Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest combined.
