- Optimize your website copy
- Add a blog to your website
- Write 10-30 wedding-related blog posts
- Optimize your images
- Use the ALT tag tool
- Use Google Analytics to monitor your website traffic
- Share your posts on all of your social media platforms
- Optimize your Pinterest pins
- Join credible wedding business directories
- Add your website URL links to your social media profiles
- Submit your site URL and sitemap to Google Search Console
Your Starting Point
Before starting with the wedding business SEO plan, you should do a little bit of research on your own Google Ranking. If you already have a website set up and submitted to Google, where do you feature on Google for your keywords and keyword phrases?
When I did this exercise 6-7 years back, I was shocked to find that my wedding company was featured back on page 9 – I quickly put this plan into place and now, even though I no longer offer my wedding services, I’m still featuring at the top of Google (on page one) for my selected keyword phrases.
Your Keyword Phrases
What are your ideal customers typing into the Google search bar to find the products/services that you offer? If you don’t know this, then you should do some keyword research before moving on to The Wedding Business SEO plan – you can do that using a free keyword planner – click here.
You could also try using the alphabet soup method – all you have to do is type your wedding business topic into Google and wait for Google to automatically generate the popular keyword phrases that are already being used by your prospects. eg. Wedding stationery a, wedding stationery b, wedding stationery c.
Wedding Business SEO Strategy
1) Increase Your Website Page Speed
Page Speed is the time it takes for your website to load. Google uses your website page speed as a ranking factor – Test your website speed here.
If your page speed is too low – you should get your web developer to fix any errors or issues that are causing the site to load slowly.
2) Optimize Your Website Copy
The words that you use on your website are more important than you probably realize. Although they need to be written in a way that sells your products or services to your prospect, they also need to be set up in a way that helps your Google ranking.
This includes a systematic approach that is too detailed for this particular article but to give you the basics, you will need to include the following: at least 800 words, a series of keywords and keyword phrases, outbound links, internal links, subtitles, and headings.
3) Add a Blog to Your Website
Every wedding business should have a Blog on its website. This is the easiest and most cost-effective way to increase the amount of content on your site, and if you get it right, it’s the greatest way of generating more traffic and getting your website ranking high on Google.
4) Write 10-30 wedding-related blog posts
Content is king! To start off with, I recommend writing at least 30 blog posts for your wedding business website. Remember to keep on topic and follow the best strategy.
The first 10 blog posts need to be a max of 800 words, the next 10 should have 1500 words and the final 10 should be at least 3000 words.
Take your time but try to be as consistent as possible. For example, I have committed to writing at least 2 blog posts per week for this site. If I can do more, I will do so, but I know that if I don’t keep up with my own plan, then this site will suffer for it.
5) Optimize your images
Weddings equal images – every wedding business is image-focused and should maximize the exposure that you can gain by optimizing your images.
Optimized images are resized, good but low res for online use, and named correctly.
For those of you with a WordPress website, I recommend using a simple plugin like WP-Optimize.
Images can also be compressed before uploading to your site using a service like TinyPNG.com.
6) Use the ALT tag tool
Every image that you upload to your site will have a name, but it will also have an extra tab next to the name called the ALT tag. This is the tag (name) that google uses for ranking images.
For example, if you typed into your google images search bar “Wedding Photography in New York” – the images that appear at the beginning of the search have all been optimized, and use the ALT tag box to name the image.
It’s very important that you name the ALT tag using the keyword phrase for your website page/post. eg. Wedding Photographer in New York
I explain this in greater detail and with a step-by-step guide in the Wedding Business Pro course.
7) Use Google Analytics to monitor your website traffic
Google loves Google! It is vitally important that you set up your Google Analytics API as soon as possible and trace your insights using this platform.
8) Share your posts on all of your social media platforms
Backlinks are very important for your wedding business SEO but you need to be very careful that you don’t blacklist your website by doing things underhandedly. My advice is to get links back to your website in the cleanest and most honest way.
Your social media channels are the best way for you to do this and in return, you will drastically increase the number of visitors to your site and your Google authority ranking will rise.
9) Optimize your Pinterest pins
Pinterest is a search engine so by setting up your Pinterest pins with keywords, website links, and great copy, you can drive a big chunk of traffic to your site on a consistent basis.
10) Join credible wedding business directories
In order to stay on the good side with Google, you should create credible and quality backlinks to your site. A great way to do this is by joining a selection of wedding directory websites to add your business listing with links back to your website.
The best way to find out which directory websites to sign up with is to do your own research. Pretend to be a bride and type in something that they would be searching for on Google to find what you do, for example, “New York Wedding Photographer”
The directory websites that feature at the top of Google for that search term are your best options as they are using their own SEO methods to rank their clients and so will do that for you.
Google also trusts those sites and will acknowledge your website as a worthy and credible site that they can trust and rank.
11) Add your website URL links to your social media profiles
This one is a simple instruction, but you would be surprised at the number of wedding businesses that have forgotten to add this or are using old links.
Use this opportunity to check your links on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and Linkedin accounts. Make sure they link back to your website (remember to test them).
12) Submit your site URL and sitemap to Google Search Console
Your website needs to be submitted to Google for indexing.
Website designers are not always on the ball and can forget or even worse, they don’t even know it’s a step they have to take.
You can submit your site and sitemap here.
Conclusion
If you want to rank high on Google for your chosen keyword phrase/s – you have to follow these wedding business SEO strategies.
It may take a little time in the beginning – but it is well worth it in the long run.
If you don’t have the time to do it by yourself – I can do it for you.
